Man punches San Diego police officer in the face in Pacific Beach

Police said the incident occurred about 9 a.m. in a business parking lot on Garnet Avenue near Fannuel Street
A San Diego police officer was taken to a hospital after a man punched the officer in the face in a Pacific Beach parking lot Tuesday morning, a lieutenant said.
Officers responded around 9 a.m. to a call about a man who had been sleeping in a business parking lot on Garnet Avenue near Fannuel Street for several days. According to OnScene TV footage, the incident occurred in a parking lot near a Wells Fargo bank.
The caller said the man was refusing to leave the parking lot, Lt. Adam Sharki said.
When officers arrived, they talked to the man. While the officers searched law enforcement databases to check whether the man was wanted in connection with any crimes, he tried to walk away, Sharki said.
Officers told him to stop, and the man punched one of them in the face several times, Sharki said.
The 25-year-old suspect was restrained and arrested. He was booked into jail on suspicion of battery on a police officer, resisting a police officer and providing false identification to a police officer, according to online jail records.
The officer who was punched was taken to a hospital for treatment, Sharki said. An update on the officer’s condition was not available Tuesday afternoon.
