Report vehicles parked more than 72 hours

A Pacific Beach resident in the Olney Street-area called PB Monthly with a concern regarding what he believes to be an unscrupulous car dealership using neighborhood streets for parking cars — weeks at a time, sometimes up to a month.

In response, San Diego Police Department Northern Division told PB Monthly that police are not aware of complaints regarding this issue, but if citizens notice cars parked on the street for more than 72 hours (3 days) at a time, they should report it by calling (619) 531-2000, so a parking officer can mark the vehicle and further investigate, if necessary.

Coyote warning in Mount Soledad area

A Mount Soledad-area resident called PB Monthly to warn of a rash of coyotes attacking and killing small pets, such as cats and dogs. The resident said she believed a construction project in the area has displaced the coyotes. She called the California Department of Fish & Wildlife, but said staff told her they no longer capture and re-locate coyotes.

Residents in the area are advised to keep a close eye on their pets and keep their dogs on leashes when going on walks.

DUI checkpoint nets arrests in August

The Police Department Traffic Division conducted a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint between 10:55 p.m. and 3:10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, at 2400 Grand Ave. where a total of 457 vehicles were screened. This led to 13 drivers being evaluated, seven DUI-Alcohol suspects arrested in or near the checkpoint (one for failure to yield, after running the checkpoint where a stop stick was deployed), two arrested for operating a vehicle unlicensed or while suspended/revoked. 10 citations were issued and seven vehicles impounded.
