Should electric scooters be banned from boardwalks?
PB Monthly asked this question on Mission Beach Boardwalk, Aug. 29. -- Compiled by Savanah Duffy

“I see how business owners can get angry about electric scooters because people don’t care where they leave them or anything. But as a non-business person, I think they’re fun." --Miranda Mascitti

“I feel like the scooters can be cool, but most times, people are reckless with them; they don’t pay attention to other people around them; they park them in the middle of places they shouldn’t. Just as long as you follow the rules, it shouldn’t be too hard. But for some reason, it’s very hard to get everybody to do that.” —Grant Olson

DID YOU KNOW?

Established in 1887, Pacific Beach was to have as its centerpiece, the 23-acre College of Letters, which opened in 1888 on land at Garnet Avenue and Lamont Street, where Pacific Plaza Shopping Center now sits. Due to a lack of students, the college soon closed.

With the exception of farming (mostly lemon trees), the community remained sleepy until the Crystal Pier was built in the late 1920s.

The town took off after World War II when San Diego’s military presence boosted PB’s profile and population. Today, 42,876 people call PB home and the median home price is $815,000.
